What is better, a sauna or an infrared sauna?
Neither is “better,” they just get you to the same place by different routes.
A traditional sauna heats the air around you, usually 170–195°F, using a stove and heated rocks. You can pour water over the rocks to create steam, and a full session lasts 15-20 minutes. It’s the intense, sweat-drenched experience most people picture, and it has the deepest research behind it.
An infrared sauna skips the air entirely. Infrared lamps warm your body directly at a much gentler 120–140°F, so you’ll sit for 30-45 minutes to get a comparable sweat. It’s easier to tolerate if you’re heat-sensitive; it heats up in about 10 minutes instead of 40, and it runs on a standard outlet.
The bottom line: choose traditional if you want the classic high heat, steam, and the strongest evidence base. Choose infrared for lower heat, longer, more comfortable sessions, and simpler installation. And if you’re still unsure, visit our showroom to compare the two options in person.
